Hi - I'm Becca. I don't know how much time I'll be spending on the forums, because I'm up to my official White Star Lines life vest in research and writing for a book about women's fashions and social history of 1901-1919. I'm sure that the time I do spend here will be informative, though.

Hello, my name is Ashley! I'm a young photographer who has a love for vintage fashion. I am trying to learn as much as possible, and this website has been a huge help! I love thrifting and going to estate and yard sales, as well as the occasional antique fair and flea market. I love a little bit from every era of vintage fashion!

Hi, everyone, I'm new here and like to see nice things on clothing.

Hi everyone! I've had my own clothing label for the past 2 years and I am hugely inspired by anything non-mainstream. Particularly vintage from the 40's and 50's, as well as 1600's and Victorian fashions. I've been wanting to get started with a new bridal collection based on 40's and 50's fashion elements for well over a year now. I was ill for the most part of last year though so I'm only just starting to re-consider the new designs now. As part of my online research I found this wonderful forum :)

Hi! I am Jan, I always have been fascinated with antiques and vintage items, since I was a young girl. Always like to incorporate a funky one of kind accessory to my wardrobe. Love the fact that buying antiques and vintage items allows me to recycle and own a piece of history. It is thrilling to be able to offer my found treasures to those who appreciate them. I am always willing to take special requests for items that someone is in search of that they may need help finding. Looking forward to learning some great info from these forums.

    Hi everyone!

I am new here and thought I would introduce myself. I only just discovered this forum today and I must say, it's fantastic! Believe it or not, it was my four year old daughter - who loves all things 1950s - who has got me into vintage clothes! I have now bought a few pieces for myself to wear and love them dearly, although I am ashamed to say that I am pretty ignorant of the details of their history. I don't feel limited to buying clothes from within a certain era at the moment; I love many items from the 1920s all the way through to the 1970s. I have been reading through the threads of other members asking for help identifying items and garments, and this is just what I need! What a brilliant idea. I will be taking photos of a few of my own items and posting them soon. I just bought a dress today that I am dying to find out about!
    Bye for now! :hiya:

Hi Jo, just wanted to say welcome, and I love your photo you have a very vintage look, I'm still working my way up to having hair that short, it's just below my chin at the moment! :D

Thanks for the compliments Pinkcoke! I'm loving that you think I have a "very vintage look". I always thought I had a very old-fashioned looking face and hair, and I used to battle with my appearence to look modern. Now I have gone completely in the opposite direction, finally embracing my natural curls and ditching the straightening irons, slipping on a vintage dress, and reaching for the red lippy!! And I couldn't be happier. Until quite reacently, my hair was just below chin length too. But I took the scissors to it in a moment of mad impusiveness and lopped off a couple of inches!!!! I am quite happy with the result actually. And I thought that even if it turned out terribly, it wouldn't take too long to grow out again, and I could just wear my favourite cloche hat until then! :)

Hi! Just had a browse through the items in your on-line shops - some gorgeous stuff there, and good value too. I love your 1960s mod mini dresses. I think I will be forwarding on your shop web addresses to my husband (as a subtle hint) when it comes round to Christmas... ';)

Hi, I'm Kayla. I live in Arizona for the time being and am into costume design/theatre and looking to open a 1920's inspired theatre by the time I'm 30 (I'm 21). I have been into vintage fashion/antiques/history for as long as I remember. Originally was interested in 60s, but for the past year or so I've been more enamored by the 20s. My boyfriend has been lurking mens style forums and learning a ton, so I decided to find a vintage fashion forum!
    I'm pretty excited!
I'm not sure if that was too long-winded.

Hello, everyone. I'm hoping to connect with people who are enthuasiastic about designers like Claire McCardell and Charles James, as well as fashion associated with old Hollywood worn by the likes of Grace Kelly, Joan Crawford and Audrey Hepburn. Feel free to leave me a note if you'd like to discuss these subjects.

    Hello,
You mentioned you're interested in the 1920's & '60s -- have you been following the sixties clothing styles on the show "Mad Men?" Also, "The Great Gatsby" is about to be released, so you might want to compare the clothing in the new version to the 1970's film with Robert Rdeford.

There's a fantastic series called "House of Elliott" about two fashion designers in 1920's London. This features plenty of rich and detailed clothes of the era -- check it out.

Hi All...I'm Robin and I'm new to the site as well. I had been into antique pottery and china for a while and just recently started looking at clothing when an estate more or less fell into my lap. I had responded to an ad for a washing machine, and when I went to look at it the woman apologized for the mess and said her Mom had passed. She said they were exhausted with trying to clean out the house because her mother was a shop-a-holic, and jokingly, she asked "how much will you give me for everything?" I took her up on her offer :sunshine: I immediately thought about the furniture and all the china I saw, but this woman had FOUR walk-in closets full of designer clothing...and in the largest walk-in closet, she had a walk-in cedar closet. She had a 4-drawer chest full of nothing but designer scarves. The family says that she had not been able to go upstairs into her room or closets for at least the last 12 years, and they were about ready to donate all the "old" clothes to Goodwill as I got there! So anyway...that started my journey into vintage clothing and accessories.

I stumbled upon this site by chance (much like the estate) and it has been really helpful for me. Since this woman with the designer clothes also received gifts right up until she died, I really have a hard time distinguishing what is vintage and what may have been a new gift. I saw the Resource Guide, but the labels I have aren't in there. Could anyone tell me if there are other resources to check out labels like Classics by Anne Klein and Yves Saint Laurent (not found in the database), Belvedere (Wien - Vienna - Austria), Mlle Ricci Paris, Bessi - Made in Italy. I also have a hard time with Eileen Fisher since her designs are very simple in cut and form and seem to stay the same. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Rms, sounds like you've had an amazing find, I did a similar house clearance not long ago, though I couldn't actually take all of it, I had a car load! The best you can do is do as much research yourself first on the internet, through library books etc and then bring your findings to the Forum. Do a search to see if anybody had the same queries before you (with several different key words or phrases, we all type things differently) and if you're still in need of help, post a thread in the Q&A with clear pictures of the garment and any labels and your thoughts and questions.
    kind regards, Melanie.

Evening ladies and gents and how are we all on this lovely June evening? I just joined and thought I'd come and say 'hi'. I've always loved the the 1950s retro look - its so glam and feminine so I thought what the hay why don't I try this style out for myself... so I have and there is no looking back! I try new hair styles and love the classy, feminine clothes - they always make you feel good and confident! I then started to wonder if there was a forum and bingo there is!
