About the Label Resource

The Label Resource was started by VFG member Artizania about 3 years ago. Since its start on her website, it has grown and grown, and it is now maintained and updated by the members of the VFG.

The purpose of the label resource is to help with identification of the ages of garments, and to provide information about designers and clothing companies. It is not a value guide.

The Vintage Clothing Guild is constantly updating the Label Resource, and we welcome contributions. If you have labels to contribute, we ask that you keep in mind a few guidelines.

First, please check the Resource to insure that your label is not already included.

If your label is NOT shown there, and you feel it should be, then post an image of the label onto this thread, together with details of
(1) date of garment
(2) type of garment
(3) any information you have about the designer/label.

Try to get a clear, straight shot of the label. Please crop it to show just the label, and resize it to 200 pixils across. You may also want to include a shot of the garment, especially if it is special in any way.

What kinds of labels do we need? Any label from a recognized designer or company is greatly desired. We are looking for additional labels from designers from which we already have examples. Labels for which we have or can find information of are more likely to be included than obsure labels with no information. Vintage labels are more likely to be included than modern ones, although we are seeking important modern labels.

By posting your label image here, you are giving your copyright assignment for the image to go onto the Label Resource. You will be credited for your contribution.

Thanks to all who take the time to contribute to this great resource!

Didn't see this on the labels resource and I thought it might be a good addition.

Update May 15, 2005.

Here is a link to the current thread to post labels. Have fun everyone.
I will update with a new link once the below is closed and a new thread is opened.

This thread is for Lingerie labels only:

If you have a "mystery label", meaning one that has no existing bio in the resource, and you also do not have any leads or info on writing a bio of your own, post to one of the mystery label threads as well so that other forum members can help you out. You never know who lived near that old time department store or could unlock a mystery for you.

Labels that say "new york" as a location

(Lizzie, I did a little research on Vin Draddy if you would like...the info was a little confusing online, but I could try to summarize.)

Yes, I would like. Thanks, Maggie!

I'm going to start a Haymaker/Izod/Crystal thread and have Chris move the haymaker posts there. This really is such a confusing label that we need to try and sort it out!

Here is a Serge Lepage label - He was at Schiaparelli. I only know he is French and born in 1936. Don't know when he left Schiaparelli. He designed into the 70's and displayed the most expensive dress in history for $1.5 million in Paris in 1977.

It came from 70's Serge Lepage dress.
