Go Green with Peridot Peridot—a sparkling green gemstone variety of the mineral group olivine—is August’s birthstone. Early Crusaders first brought peridot to Europe from St. John’s Island, Egypt (Zabargad), where it was discovered at least four thousand years ago. It was referred to as chrysolite and has historically been a source of healing; it also symbolizes good fortune and success. This week we showcase vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories in all shades of peridot, from olive to lime.
