As promised I have taken loads of photos of my finds on my first vintage hunting sessions. Dont know how I did, but really just picking up things to get a feel for it. So how did I do please? But firstly, how do I put my pics onto this post..??? AAAAAH
Yes. You can use a hosting service like photobucket, inkfrog, and there are others to host photos. you will get a convenient url for each one and then can paste it into the messages very easily. I am really really bad at dating hats! Does it have any type of label? size? store or maker? Just getting all the facts before the hat experts come along Chris
brilliant, thanks, just seeing if this works now then, here is the label http://www.geocities.com/gooders2274/vintagehat2.jpg
Hit "post reply" directly under the previous message instead of the "quick reply". you will see options to change text size, etc. there is also a littel button for a picture. hit in and fill in the url
brilliant, thank you for that. Right now at least I can use the board properly So the first hat - black and 2nd photo is the label Then I have a Kangol one, not sure how old that would be. KANGOL TURBAN http://www.geocities.com/gooders2274/kangolhat.jpg and labelling http://www.geocities.com/gooders2274/kangollabel.jpg
how are you making the photos appear instead of just the link please..?? and does anyone have any ideas on the hats.?
i am probably the last person to be answering this (rubbish with hats!) but the first one looks 1950's to me. same label as this one i posted last week.. http://www.vintagefashionguild.org/public/viewthread.php?tid=2474 very smart!! the kangol one looks modernish, maybe 1980's or 90's even? the style is older but the trouble with kangol is aside from the flat caps etc. and trendy bags they were marketing in the mid 90's i would hazard a guess that many of their styles have remained unchanged for years and years, as 'more mature' ladies tend to favour them (and don't like change, one assumes). that's just my hypothesis, as chris said i would wait 'til the real hat experts chime in before coming to any conclusions. i wonder what will happen if you wear it in the rain? would it shrink to your head and get stuck? good of them to warn you!
shall i try weearing it in the rain just to see what happens  Where are all the hat experts..???
i'm sure someone will log on soon - i think a lot of them will just be getting up about now, depending on time zones! (and probably safest not to try!! :spin: )
Type <img src= http://www.geocities.com/gooders2274/kangollabel.jpg > Take out the space between = and http take out the space between .jpg and > Here is a list of code for this board too http://www.vintagefashionguild.org/public/faq.php?page=misc#1 The label on that Kangol does look a lot more recent, I agree.
I just click on the little black and yellow photo icon that appears when you post and put the address of the photo there. Like this.. I just put this in the box http://www.geocities.com/gooders2274/kangolhat.jpg
Oh and as far as the date...I believe from the lable style and the fact that it is 100% polyester that the hat is newer and I would not call it vintage. But that is just my opinion.
what about the first hat, the black one.? anyone got any more ideads on that please.? I also picked up this dress, very lairy, bright pink with big collars and tiny gems sewn around edging (looks nicer actually than the photo) its by carnegie
Carnegie are in the label resource, and I think that looks like a slightly later label for them. I think it could be 70s? (and, Hi!) Lin
Harriet was thinking 50s on the hat. I agree with you, Lin on the dress. Would this be the "Carnegie of London/Carnegie Models?" I think the collar/neck details on this one would be very face framing.
I think this one says 'Carnegie of London' too? The others may have come across their dresses too, but these three labels have always struck me as being three successive styles from the same (or roughly the same) firm.
Velvet with Black Plumes? (unless the monitor deceives me and it is not indeed velvet). Looks like high society gal if you ask me. Lin...i seem to have thought there was of course Hattie Carnegie, and then the other Carnegie who is Carnegie of London and maybe like you say Carnegie Models and they were progressive labels to one another...but i think not much is known accept for the fact that they are "NOT related to hattie Carnegie" and that's about it. ?
