    Great site for collectors

    www.Collectica.com

A great new site for collectors, as well as vendors and dealers. Features user-created galleries, VIP/Celebrity/Museum Galleries, forums, news, and classifieds.

Some of these may be of interest - I've skimmed through this thread and I don't think they're repeats:

    http://tirocchi.stg.brown.edu/exhibition/index.html
    Tirocchi Dressmakers Project Online Exhibition

    http://www.uniformfreak.com/
Cliff Muskiet's Stewardess/Flight Attendant Uniform Collection. A specialised interest, but fun to view.

    http://www.teddygirl.co.uk/
Ken Russell's (yes, that Ken Russell) amazing photographs of Teddy Girls in London, 1955. I've just checked this and can't get the pictures to load - you might have more luck.

    http://www.britishpathe.com/
Pathe newsreels archive with a wealth of fashion footage. Just to indicate the potential - I'm researching interwar fashions and have listed 118 films/clips just from the 20s and 30s. Since there is material from 1896 to 1970 there's bound to be something of interest to everyone! Plus UK residents can download preview versions for free.

If you have Claire Shaeffer's Fabric Sewing Guide, it has an extensive Fiber/Fabric Dictionary and a Burn Chart; however, I know from watching the posts on VFG, it won't answer all of your questions.

If you don't have it, call your local library. If they don't have it they can get it through inter-library loan.

Another book I use a lot is Fairchild's Dictionary of Textiles by Tortora & Merkel. Unfortunately, since this is a textbook, most libraries don't have it and it's expensive.
