Northern Lights: Iridescent Aurora Borealis ~ VFG Fashion Parade for the week of December 26th

    The shifting, pastel hues of the celestial Northern Lights are simulated by the shimmering, iridescent finish on vintage rhinestones. Starting in the mid-1950s, Swarovski crystals were coated with a finish to create a reflective, multi-colored effect, in blue tones at first, and later in many pastel colors. The process was licensed for broader use and was popular into the 1960s.

    This week, VFG members celebrate the natural Northern Lights by showing off our best "AB" rhinestone jewelry pieces, as well as other iridescent items including shimmering fabrics and iridescent sequins and beading on clothing and accessories.
