This week we extol the virtues of 20th Century "Cubist" artists such as Pablo Picasso, Georges Braque, and others beginning about 1908. The flat planes, indeterminate space, cylinders, cones, rotation, and use of collage in Cubism evolved into fashion abstracted for the human form by designers such as Adrian, Chanel, Poiret, and Vionnet. Fundamental traits of Cubist art were translated into fashion from 1908 to the early 1920s and continue to influence present-day designers. VFG members block out time to present their abstract vintage pieces of fashion from all eras through time. Included are: screen-printed fabrics, pieced-fabric collages, colorblock styles, geometric prints, and hand-painted textile fashions.
