I was trying to ID a dress and was given some info to contact a person doing a project on Eugene Alexander.

I contacted her and she conferred with the the designer Eugene Stutzman and he said that it was not one of his. However, I did get some interesting info from her. She wrote:
I am interested in all Eugene Alexander dresses as we are working on a historic project regarding his dress line. Some Lillie Rubin dresses were his as well as Lillie Rubin asked occasionally to have some of his line with their label in it. Lots of people do not realize this. If you ever have a Lillie Rubin dress that you think might be his feel free to ask. Let me know if you ever come across any Eugene Alexander dresses!
Thought that was a good bit of info to add to your Lillie Rubin reference.

Was just looking at the label resource and saw the "Novelty" category. Didn't know it was there, but thought I might have a few to add. Here are some, maybe you already have them? Anyway, I have thousands of labels on CD's, so some day when I have time will go thru them and see if you can use them.

Since this is on the front page again, I'm reminded of a correction I keep meaning to mention.

The designer Kansai Yamamoto is listed under K for Kansai, but it should be under Y for Yamamoto.
It may have been confusing because the label lists the surname first (as is the style in Japan, I think.)

this is the label submission thread---

The novelty labels were being submitted on another thread, one honoring MC.

BUT I can grab them from here, it's not a big deal.

Thanks for submitting all labels so far!!

Sorry for any confusion and I should have known Pinky would be on top of any new submissions :D

Rei Kawakubo Mens Reversible Coat (Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons)

I have actually found another label inside the breast pocket on the red side. It does state Comme des Garcons but it's not the usual label we see.

So I believe this is an early item - she started the menswear line in 1978 and this does have a very early 80s look with the shoulder line.

Maria Carine was owned by Maria Moutet-Chenu. She worked with 4 couturiers: Heim, Desses, LaRoche, and Lanvin. After the couture showings, each couturier would give her sketches based upon the garments they had just shown. Moutet-Chenu made the toiles which were approved by the designers. Then each ready-to-wear garment was cut individually by hand in the Maria Carine workrooms in Paris using the same fabrics that were used for the couture garment. Maria employed hundreds of seamstresses, many of whom worked in their own homes. They sewed each garment individually to exacting standards. This was the highest of high-end ready-to-wear!

Corroborated by two former Vali clients.

Vali was originally from Czechoslovakia. She designed, manufactured and exported worldwide from her premises on Chabanel Street in Montreal. She also had a boutique on the premises for walk in clientele and, for a time, one on Montreal's trendy and upscale Crescent Street. The exact dates she was in operation are unknown, but we do know she operated in the 60s and 70s.
