***CLOSED***NO MORE POSTS HERE!

The Vintage Fashion Guild is constantly updating the Label Resource, and we welcome contributions. If you have labels to contribute, we ask that you keep in mind a few guidelines.

First, please check the Resource to insure that your label is not already included.

If your label is NOT shown there, and you feel it should be, then post an image of the label onto this thread, together with details of
(1) date of garment
(2) type of garment
(3) any information you have about the designer/label.

Try to get a clear, straight shot of the label. Please crop it to show just the label, and resize it to 200 pixils across.

Also, because of the change of the label sizes when changing to the new format, some of the old labels are grainy and hard to read. If you have one of the labels that is in this condition, we welcome your replacement label.

By posting your label image here, you are giving your copyright assignment for the image to go onto the Label Resource. You will be credited for your contribution.

We are always looking for new information about any of the labels on the resource. Please post here or contact me if you have information you wish to contribute!

Concerning Use of the Label Resource

Welcome to the Vintage Fashion Guild's Label Resource. Here you'll find a large collection of vintage label images, complete with biographies and company histories for each label.

We are working hard to make sure this Resource is as comprehensive as possible. It is a work in progress;its growth depends upon contributions of labels, and any ommissions are due to the fact that examples of many designers' work are scarce. We welcome contributions of labels that are not represented on the Resource.

This Resource is to be used only as an educational tool, and is not intended as a value guide. Inclusion of a label in the resource is not an indication of value, as garments vary greatly in value depending on many factors. Another point that needs to be considered by users is that some companies used the same label for many years, and just because the garment used on the label resource is a certain date, it does not mean that all garments with the same label are the same date.

The labels included have been carefully researched, we have worked hard to insure that all information is correct. If a mistake should be found, we would greatly appreciate access to your information so the Resource can be corrected.

We hope you find the Vintage Fashion Guild's Label Resource useful. We provide the Resource at no cost to the vintage community, and we are pleased when people are able to use it. We do ask that if you use the resource or copy parts of it on another site (such as eBay) that you credit VFG in the following way: "Information courtesy of The VintageFashionGuild Label Resource" or "Information courtesy of Contributor'sName/the VintageFashionGuild Label Resource.

Please note that the author of the bio owns the copyright to the work, and that the copyright is assigned to the VFG. In order to be in compliance with eBay's copyright policy, and the law, you must credit all copyrighted work.

I think this suit is 90's. It's pretty simple, I'm guessing 1995-98.

I love the super-hero belt!!

Sorry, I have no clue how to resize the label image. :/

Is the label bright enough? Let me know, I can snap it again.

Edith Flagg and Dan Millstein

** Sorry...I originally posted these in the wrong place

I have a couple of labels to add to the resource, if you want them.

This one is from a 1950's Chanel-style tweed jacket:

This second one is from a 70s grey blazer. The brand is Three Flaggs, a divsion of Edith Flagg:

I hope you can use these!

Giorgio Sant'Angelo 80's tweed jacket. Slightly different than the label we have for this time period. Believe it was licensed.

Here's a picture of my 1970s Christian Dior Monsieur trench coat. It also has a tag from the Chicago department Store "Fields Brothers" who were one of two American distributors for the Dior Monsieur line (the other being Bergdorf's in NYC).

I was checking some goods headed for south asia and caught this in the bundle! What luck. :)

Two labels from Samuel Robert

A 70s ultra suede trench coat

http://home.teleport.com/~magmue/vfgsamuelredtag.jpg
An ultra suede swing jacket, late 70s

And a bio I wrote based on my web research (I have sources if you need them).
"Samuel K Robert was a clothing designer and manufacturer who is best known for his high end leather and Ultra Suede garments, specializing in coats, jackets and suits, for both day and evening. During the 60s, 70s and 80s, his clientele included Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Joan Crawford and Dionne Warwick. Icon Andre Courreges designed for him in 1965; he also employed Chester Weinberg, Bill Smith and Peter Hatsi-Androu. Samuel Robert died in 2001 at the age of 93."

i was wondering if Jordan Marsh a department store is worth addiong to the resource... I have ahd a few nice pieces go through... and obviously higher priced.. this wool coat had an original price tag of 198.00

I am guessing this is very late 50s early 60s (cusper) wool coat....

here is th partial bio from wikipedia.com

"Jordan Marsh & Company (or Jordan Marsh) was a department store in Boston, Massachusetts which grew to be a major regional chain in the New England area of the United States. In 1996, the last of the Jordan Marsh stores were renamed Macy's The store was formerly part of Allied Stores and then Federated Department Stores (now Macy's, Inc.). Allied also operated a separate group of stores in Florida called Jordan Marsh Florida, which were disbanded in 1991...1841, Eben Jordan left his job at a Boston dry goods store and went into business for himself laying the foundation for Jordan Marsh. Ten years later, Jordan partnered with Boston merchant Benjamin L. Marsh......After the Civil War, Jordan and Marsh expanded into nearby buildings, offering an increasing quantity and variety of goods. Eventually the partners had established the nation’s first "departmentalized" store and called it Jordan Marsh and Company."

i just figured since they are technically the first department store and supposedly their itms were quality they might be worth a look over?

Label:
Photobucket
Margeurite Rubel San Francisco

This label is from a 1960's red velvet coat. An ad for the coat appears in a 1968 ad from Piro's Department Store.

Here's a bio I found on her, courtesy of http://www.sfmuseum.org/rubel/history.html:

"Marguerite Rubel is the longest surviving member of the San Francisco Fashion Industries, established in 1920. She was raised on a farm in Iowa during the Great Depression and has never been able to figure out what was so “Great” about the Depression! In those days she often made clothes from flour and grain sacks for friends & family. A favorite was a “sack” dress with a braided belt of binder twine or with large patch pockets.

Marguerite came to San Francisco in the early 1940’s to join the (WASPS) Woman’s Auxiliary Service Pilots. She had received flight training in Omaha and continued at the Sausalito Sea Plane Base to acquire a Sea Plane Rating. However, she was still too young when they no longer needed more women pilots.

So Marguerite began dressmaking and custom sewing for friends plus waitress work, while attending school to learn professional pattern making. When San Francisco hosted the founding of The United Nations in 1945 she made raincoats for some of the visitors. They were well liked and her career in the apparel industry began to take flight."

This label is in a wonderfully made cropped jacket from the late 60s. All I've been able to find out is from the previous owner: "I understand Anne Sorrente was a little boutique on the Left Bank in the late 50s - 60s."

I don't find anything online about Anne Sorrente. Anyone?

http://www.denisebrain.com/eBay/tanpinkgreenparisjktlisa4.jpg

This is to possibly add to Luisa Spagnoli - Perugia. The label also reads Nido D'Ape, or box stitch. It's an amazing firm knit fabric with a twill finish, used for a 60s sheath dress.

http://www.denisebrain.com/eBay/blkitalianknitdresslisa5v.jpg

Thank you so much label goddesses!
