Turquoise Brooch

Hiya!

I guess if the middle of this brooch was real turquoise it would be a gold brooch which it isn't it's a costume piece (do you find real turquoise in costume pieces?)

Would this therefore be faux turquoise, maybe made of enamel?

I know this question sounds silly but just want to be sure of what I'm selling!

Thank you!

Sarah

It does not look turquoise to me, rather some sort of resin. Also, turquoise is commonly set into sterling silver and not gold tone. This does not have the look of a genuine gold piece either. It is likely a costume piece. I am not a jewelry specialist so you may wait for the other trade members who subscribe to this specialty to chime in, however I do have a lot of turquoise.

It's goldtone for sure and thought it was unlikely to be real turquoise cos of that, but did wonder what it was made from, but resin...ok resin sounds likely....so thanks Amber!

It looks like you have a Catholic brooch, with a medal of the Blessed Mother (or perhaps another figure - hard to see).

It's fired enamel, and if you give it another quarter turn to the right, maybe we can make out who is in the center.

I highly doubt that is Turquoise. And yes, that I think is the "Virgin Guadalupe," I believe. And it is a Catholic pin. That I do know.

Sometimes you do see "real" turquoise set in costume and sometimes it is set in gold tone costume -althouogh you see it more commonly in Sterling. Not all turquoise is super valuable.

However, the center of this piece is not turquoise. As Laura suggests it is fired enamel and it does appear to be a religious piece.
