Moving: What to do with the inventory.....

Due to a neurological condition, I have made the hard decision to sell my home and move closer to family. I have a few select items from my inventory I'd like to take with me, the rest I do not know what to do with.

Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas???

Bulk lot listings??

So sorry to hear about your medical issues. I wish you the very best of luck with your treatment and recovery. I'm sure your family will be very happy to have you closer to them. :)

As far as your inventory goes, I guess you need to decide how quickly you want to sell. It would probably be much easier (and quicker) to sell in whole lots. I'm sure there are VFG members in your area of the USA that might want to take a look at the stock you're selling.

I wish you luck with whatever you decide. :)

Yes, I hope all works out well for you. Some folks here facing similar inventory situations have had good luck with commission sales - if you can find someone in your area who is interested.

Are the items being kept things you plan to sell in the future or things you are handpicking for your personal use/collection? Also, when is your moving timeframe? Is your house on the market or do you have a contract already? If your move will happen in 2-3 months, I would take all the better modern stuff - 90s through current - to a consignment shop, less the tiered early 90s prommy dresses. It is a fair amount of time for the stuff to sell, and you will get money in hand. What doesn't sell can be donated at the end. Of course, if the item is current and is a trendy brand, ebaying would work. Also, if you are an independent contractor, donation write offs help taxes and you could donate to one of those programs that provides interview suits to women reentered the workforce after being on welfare or being in rehab. There are also groups that take prom dresses and give them to girls whose families are lower income cannot afford it.

I'm very sorry to hear that you are having some medical issues.

It really does depend on how quickly you need to dispose of your collection. I agree a consignment shop for newer items can be a good idea, just keep in mind if you are moving away, you should have an agreement with the owner about how long they will have to sell them off.

Same goes for a vintage shop that would be willing to accept consignments.

As far as selling off in lots on ebay, I haven't looked at those in quite some time. I did a quick look just now and saw one of our members who had quite a nice looking lot of 40 pieces end for $499.99

I know some shops in my area have you sign a contract (which should definitely be done with consignment, unless it is a very good friend or dealer than you feel you know and trust) and then begin reducing prices after a certain amount of time goes by and after a number of months you forfeit the items to them. So just be aware that this might be the case.

Also, Craigslist might be a good idea, that is if you don't mind people coming over to have a look.

I do hope it goes smoothly for you.

First, I hope you you are better soon.

Next...just a suggestion unless you are already planning this. I would buy a few plastic bins. They stack and don't take up much space.

Then I would go through the merchandise and pack away the more valuable pieces as well as those you really love. That way you can be more strategic about selling the best for what they are worth and there will be no regrets when you are well again. Then go ahead and sell off the rest.

Melody

(((Vicki))) I'm so sad to hear you're going through this.

I have a friend in Florida who is un loading her attic & storage, too. Different reasons, but basically the same work.

I've been selling her things for her. I could use the feedback on ebay & I also feel like I'd like to help you out. So... if the Lots don't work for you, or if ya wanna pick my brain, just U2U me here or contact me thru eBay & etsy. You may even still have my email addy as I just took that terrific orange dress in your giveaway a few weeks back. And I'm still hoping to wear the wonderful pink hippie blouse you included. :)

Just let me know if I can be of any help.
