    Hello,
Could anyone tell me if these silvery black sparklies on a metallic gold beaded Oberon purse are marcasite?
    Thanks alot in advance.

Hi Lauren, those look to be cut steel to me.

    What a lovely bag!

I think it is too difficult to determine accurately from a photo. Marcasite, hematite, and cut steel look extremely similar. Either way the tiny "jewels" are beautiful and add a lovely touch to the purse. My guess is cut steel, as it was more commonly used in accessories, but I cannot tell.

    Now we're tawkin! (heh heh)

Mary Jane, I've got two bucks to wager! If you, me, and Nicole are correct, the rest must send their two dollars as a donation to the VFG fund. Who's game?

Alright! Barbara's got her wager in. Anyone else? If we raise enough cash, we can buy a round of beer.

Sounds like a good way to get our donations coming in!!!

We should have a round like this once a week!!!

Tiffany, can I write you down for the two bucks?

And good idea MJ! A weekly fund raising game would be a win-win and can be hosted by different people (who will be providing a how-to-tell at the same time).

  15. Can we make it gin instead of beer? I'll wager for gin! :drinkingtoast:

I love cut steel, but I'm pretty sure I can see little indications in Lauren's great photo (so clear!) that indicate that the marcasites are separate "stones" that can fall out or be replaced, whilst cut steel is cut in one and doesn't need "beds" for the little marcasites.

Another clue is that the "stones" are all the same size - I'd expect more variation if they were cut steel.

Shhhhhhhh Nicole. We can't speak too soon, since we still have to shake Julie down for the money!
