I need some help dating this velveteen dress I recently thrifted. I'm thinking 60's or 70's, because of the style/color, finishing on the hems, and plastic zipper, but there are no tags anywhere. I'm guessing it was handmade, but it is so well crafted that it seems hard to believe. I would love to hear some thoughts/opinions on this rusty red lovely!

That's very pretty - a lovely shade of red. Can you show us a full length view? it's hard to date without the length.

Lovely dress. In the photos it appears to be a fleece type fabric, not a velveteen?

I really can't be sure, I'm only going off what I could find through Google. It's very heavy and almost drape-like. I wish there was a label, it would make things so much easier!

Could this - because of the fabric - be 1980s? It IS hard to tell without it being on a body, but I'm going with a 1980s holiday dress.

  7. I suspect it's velour rather than velvet. Probably synthetic.

Thank you all for your thoughts! Yes, I definitely agree that the fabric is synthetic. Any more ideas on the possible era?
