Hello all, what a beautiful day it is here on the English east coast!

Here is the second purse of a lot of three (and other items) dating from the 30s-60s.

    This is tapestry? needlepoint?

Interestingly when I searched for vintage jade 1930s Chinese purse the google image search came up with quite a few bags very similar to this one (though mine lack any jade adornments).

Please let me know what you think as to dating and wether it is Chinese? I would have
presumed English as the tapestry to the base has the word 'Rosemary' the wording to the sides of the purse is less clear (one side has GARDNN…?, and the other and is ...SZANN?) I'm unsure wether they are reference to herbs or names?
No labels/stamps on the frame etc.

Needlepoint - and it looks like gobelin stitch. From my knowledge, these were often also sold as kits with the frame, so that you would do your own embroidery and then put the bag together. I can't say if yours could be that or not... here's a bag my mom made for my grandma in the 60s from such a kit, though with a less elaborate frame - the side and back were made of suede.

Thank you so much midge! To be honest I do think the needlework is quite chunky which made me think later, but the frame throws me. I have only seen frames very similar on earlier purses and it appears to be professionally sewn into the frame. I suppose it could have been added from an earlier purse?

I joined and posted in the vintage purse Facebook page to ask for more advice. No-one responded re: Dating though they did say that the frame was a glue in frame which had likely been repurposed. So maybe it is an earlier frame with a 60s purse???

Edit... oh and apparently it is missing a pull cord? I do see a hole to the centre front below the Rocker (new term I learnt!) clasp

  7. I agree it has been repurposed with a later , 1940 50s homemade needlepoint . The pattern is very sweet though
