30s?? Embroidered Dress I Can\'t Make Myself Sell

Here's another frock I bought to sell, and it's beginning to look like I'm going to keep it. I love this one, and I'm thinking it's early 30s????

Sheer rayon (I think) gauzy fabric is embroidered all around the hem. My pictures are a bit faded looking. In reality, the colors are very strong.

There is a natural waist, but also a drop waist. This dress snaps in the small of the back. Dig that scalloped hem!

Do you guys agree that it is 30s?

oh yes! and quite lovely. Some Russian ethnic influence there at the neckline. I could see this over a blue slip to bring out the embroidery or a pale pink slip to bring ou thte lines. I can see why you might want to keep it for awhile.

As Monty tells me - "you can always sell them, but you can't ever get them back".

I get a 30's piano shawl feel from this, or at least the embroidery.
Quite fetching... and a bit naughty if you want it to be :)
What is with the natural as well as drop waist? When was this popular?

Why do I see Anis Nin wearing this to meet Henry?

  6. You and me--both, Michelle. :) If I didn't love her diaries so much, I still have the ex-boyfriend who felt I should wear "Anais Anais" cologne as his ex-girlfriend had. Bwah.

Monty makes an excellent point Hollis!

Lizzie, you have got to hold onto this for a while anyway.....
it is lovely! I'm with Michelle in that the embroidery reminds me of the embroidery on silk piano shawls.

    Lizzie-

Just beautiful . . and I'd have a hard time parting with, too.

Hollis, tell Monty that he's my kind of man!

You know, this dress does have an Anais feel to it; kind if a 30s bohemian/artsy vibe.

And yes, the embroidery is very similar to that found on shawls, but it's done in cotton instead of silk or rayon.

I'm glad you all like this dress as much as I do. I pulled it from a rack of 80s dresses and everyone in the store gasped!

  10. It is sooooooo beautiful, Lizzie. It's certainly a holy grail item in my book. *wiping drool from chin*
