60s or 70s for this Cotton Velvet Evening Coat

Those long black maxi coats look 1970-72 to me, but I think they started in the winter of 69, and I know my mother wore hers (which I think she acquired in 72 well into 1976/77 before retiring it.

I'm with Jonathan on this one. My sister bought her black winter maxi coat in the Fall of 1969. She wore until she gave it me in 1971! I always recalled these as being a 1969 - 1970 thing that lasted about 2 years, eventually being replaced with the midi coats of the early 70s.

I agree with 1969 - 1970. I bought a maxi coat in 1969; wore it in 1969 and 1970 and then shortened it to a midi in 1971. I have posted this photo before but this is me in Central Park in early spring 1972 in said coat - after it as shortened to a midi with my dog Brandy. (Wearing his own coat.)

Lovely coat! I agree with early '70s, due to the labels which I think take it out of the '60s.
