Another treasure I picked up in my lot of clothes is this lovely coat. Can anyone help me date it? Would it be considered an opera coat? It's hard to get good photos of this on my phone!

    Thanks!

I love the star spangled hood on this one, it really is different than most in that regard. It looks 1940s to me. Can you show or describe the inner shoulder? Specifically what type and shape of shoulder padding? I thought perhaps it could be late 1930s although the fabric in the lining looks a bit later than 1930s. Hard to tell from the photo.

  4. Just some trivia for you --> Edgar J. Kaufmann, who owned the department store your gorgeous coat is from, commissioned Frank Lloyd Wright to design and build his house, voted the #1 work of American architecture, "Falling Water" (1935).

As for the date, it could be late 30s. There was a bit of a "hood" frenzy in the 30s, far as I can tell. But a lot of late 30s and 40s stuff I find difficult to differentiate. And of course, coats often have hoods ; ). Guess that wasn't very helpful. LOL.
