Black velvet dress needs a date - 40s?

Okay, this one gives me a 40s vibe, but I keep on going back to pre-war because this particular type of bias cut draping effect always makes me think 30s. Has side metal zip. No labels, darn it.

Looks post war 40s to me, the skirt is too full for wartime, but c. 1946ish would work.

once again - I am with Jonathan on this one. The cut of the shoulders and the midriff work for the 1946 - 47.

Pretty dress! Almost looks to me like it may have been longer --- at one point and evening dress?
