Have A Collection Of Caro Nan Purses From The 1960's..I Have Noticed That They Have Become Popular Again.Does Anyone Know The Manufacture Of These Handbags? Also, Some Are In Need Of Minor Repair Not Sure If Bags That Are Shellaced Can Be Touched-Up. Also, Have A Bag From That Same Time Frame, Basket Style With No Lid, Most Had The Owners Monogram Needlepointed To Fabric Placed On Front Of Basket...

I do like these bags. I've got 3 or 4.
A few years ago I was getting 20.00-24.00 for them at the antique mall
but when they stopped selling for that price I took them home.

I've never seen them with the needlepoint monograms.
I have one that has never been personalized with shop names.
Keep thinking I will do it myself one day.

I gravitate toward travel related items.

This really brings back memories. I remember having one with the monogram!

Re the CN purses, I have one that was my Mom's. Wouldn't think of getting rid of it, though.

I have a picture of it somewhere around here if I can find it.

Ever since you posted your question about Caro-Nan basket purses (which I used to have, too), I have searched the thousands of newspapers in the databases to which I have access, but other than sketches of them in some store ads, I was unable to find any information about the company other than this blurb from a 1974 Hagerstown MD newspaper:

Perhaps some Jackson, Miss. site can lead you to more information about them.

they kinda grow on you very folksy, naive bags...

I just spent about 15 minutes googling and cannot find anything.

No wonder my Mom had a purse like this. My hometown was only 35 minutes from Jackson, MS.

Last year I said that I would post a picture then promptly forgot! I'll post one when I visit my Mom later today as my Caro Nan purse is at her house.

I had some. They sell if the theme of the purse is something desirable to the person. I have seen quite a few that depict particular cities or towns, and have really only sold them to people that had a strong connection with the place. The other feedback I have received is there are some folks that don't like them because they look very DIY.

It depends on what is wrong with them if I would touch them up or not. Some people like the patina of the wood, etc, and if its minor I wouldn't do anything to it. If it is major, you may want to think about the investment of time versus what it is really going to sell for.

Monograms are hit and miss. if its a single letter, it can sell, but if its three initials it is a tougher sell unless the bag is extraordinary.

I forgot to post pics of mine too:(

A while back, might have been the last time we talked about this, through the power of google I came across a gal/artist that was involved with the Caro-Nan bags at one time.
I emailed her but never got a response.

I had a few of them which sold in the Summer of 2008 to a collector of box purses in Japan for decent money. I don't have the pics anymore though.

I find there is usually a penny involved.
