I've had this Carson Pirie Scott hat for years now, kept in a box.

    1) Any thoughts as to era?

    2) Any photos you can direct me to that show me someone wearing something like it, so I can figure out if it's something I can actually get out of the box every once in a while?

Here's some info on the department store the label is associated with:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carson's (based upon the wikipedia entry and the label, this hat predates 1978, but I think we can all tell that by looking at it too)

While I cannot really get a good look at the hat, it looks to be from the mid to late 1950s. Can you show a close up of the hat so we can see the materials of which it is made?

You look to be wearing it correctly in the first photo, more back on the head and not tilted to one side. It would look correct for the time period if you had a 1950s hair style.

Thank you for the help already! I'll try to upload a larger photo of the hat so the materials are clearer. In addition to the netting across the top, it looks like straw, more netting, and black velvet for the bows?

  4. I agree with 1950s and the first photo is correct. Very sweet hat and it looks good on you

    Thank you!

If only I could actually manage a 1950s style with my hair, but that's a different problem for a different set of internet forums, I think!
