Cotton fabric bolt: 1940s? How to describe?

Discussion in 'PUBLIC Vintage Chatter - Anything and everything' started by The Vintage Vendeuse, Oct 26, 2020.

  1. Approximately 4 to 5 yards, 36 inch width. The colorway makes me think 1940s. The design is somewhat quirky, could this be described as a novelty print? Floral abstract? And the “ribbing“ in the weave… Would this be called a dimity? In my mind, dimity is always lightweight and slightly sheer when held up to the light. This is dress weight.

  2. How wonderful. I have had late 1930s early 40s dresses made out of this type of fabric.
I would say novelty along with geometric. I love it.
I know the name from my catalogs, but it alludes me right now. Not dimity.
