Cotton fabric - do you see a particular painter?

Cotton print from the 70s I think - 55" width. Wondering if anyone recognizes this scene. No markings on selvedge.

Thanks!

No idea on the artist. It does remind me a great deal of those fabulous American textiles that were coming out in the late 1940s, with designs inspired by (but not copies of) French Impressionist painters. This one has a bit of a Renoir feel to it, but of course is not his work. Are you sure this is a 1970s fabric? Is it a thin plain weave, almost opaque in the light, or does it have more substance to it? Without handling it or seeing it in person, it sure looks late 40s to me.

Thanks for looking , Barbara. Perhaps Renoir inspired. Impressionist for certain.

It is a light weight thin plain weave. I can see through it when held up to the light but it is by no means sheer. I took a pic with my hand behind but not directly in the light. Hope that helps.

I leaned towards the 70s because of the 55" width selvedge to selvedge. I know width is not foolproof for dating but that was my thinking.

Agree on all that. Funny, I just came from Vienna, and earlier today on our usual thrift shop round I bought a 70s polyester blouse with an Impressionist-inspired print in a similar style! Only I've alredy chucked it in the dirty laundry basket - will post a photo once it's been washed!

Sorry this took so long - only got to do my big wash today. Here is the blouse:

It's a bit brighter green in person, but it's already dark outside, and my camera doesn't like green...

It think this must be inspired by an impressionist painting. I just loved the green and the print over all, so I bought it even though it's poly.
