I am kind of stumped on this dress. I’ve gotten pretty good at dating stuff but this one is all over the place. It has a slight 20s look to it, with the glass beads and gathering at the waist on one side, but the look of it makes me think 60s. It has a side metal zipper and pinked seams. The hem is different in the front than in the back. There’s is a hook and eye closure in the back. I think it’s been altered, but I’m not sure. It may have been taken in and it may have had the sleeves shortened a bit but I’m not sure. No shoulder pads. I have no idea what the fabric is. Thank you!
I take that back about it being altered but I do suspect it was homemade. All the beads were neatly sewn on with black thread. I also managed to figure out the zipper has MURLEN on it.
Love this! It certainly looks like early- to mid-40s to me. Rayon fabric, with prong-set rhinestones and beading. I believe this would have been commercially made. Women did make their own dresses, but that embellishment sure looks like something done by a manufacturer of the time.
Thank you! The embellishments were what sold me, though it was only 5 bucks at a flea market. I’m going to see about having it altered just a little bit so I can wear it.
