Hello. I’m assuming this is from the 70s by the long cuffs but I thought I would make sure. It snaps down the front and the seams are unfinished. No labels anywhere. The fabric feels like a rayon and a lot of the seams are frayed. There’s no sash or belt or belt loops. It’s on my dress form that’s already wearing an orange and paisley maxi dress, so it’s not confusing. Thanks!

I'm not at all convinced its from the 1970s but much earlier.

It has an old feel to it but I think those snaps are pretty modern and they aren’t sewn on.

Are they set on like studs? I am thinking it's an imported piece ( maybe India?) from the embroidery and rhinstone work.

I think you are right. Usually what pieces I see from India are open on the sides. This robe isn’t, but further examination shows that it was open on the sides but that someone sewed the sides closed. There is no hem either. Here are some pictures of the snaps and sewn sides.

I'm in agreement with Hollis on this one. I think that's a men's Kurta.

    But not 70s, 60s surely??

I think so too. It was in the bottom of a box of completely unrelated stuff, so it’s surprising. Thanks for the help!

Yes, I was thinking similarly, a traditional garment from 'somewhere'

They are so beautiful and I always think it would be great to have a simple way to tailor it so you can wear it with the long slits if you want or fasten if that's what you want.
