Hi there! Never has something come into my hands as such as this and alas need some wisdom...long black velvet coat, 3 covered front buttons, a squared off hood with scalloped edge and beading, blouson sleeves with single button cuff, velvet is backed with a lining, ivory satin lining is also backed with another warmer lining.
My initial gut said 40s but it seems perhaps earlier? Any help is much appreciated

    I also see 1930's. Wonderful!

Lovely, and I also see 1930s. Hard to tell for sure in the photo, but the beading appears to have been added at a later date. If so you might want to remove it if it can be done without leaving marks in the velvet.

Ah, OK, as I would like to learn more...may I ask what gives you that impression?

The stitching looks a bit clumsy and should not be white thread, it should be black to match the velvet. Also, these evening coats were not usually trimmed unless it was fur such as ermine, etc. It just doesn't look "right" to me in the quality of the sequins (tape sequins (?), pastel colors, and overall look. If it were to be beaded I might expect black beading or clear, and it should be beaded on the cuffs as well. I could be wrong, can you show a close up?
