I found this dress on a vintage dress form, decided on buying the dress only, went back for the dress form and it was sold. Kicking myself for that one. Ugh. Might this dress be from the 40s? Buttons up the front but it also has a side metal zipper. No tags or labels. I don't know what the fabric is but it's got a flowy feel to it. Missing the belt, darnnit. Thank you!

I would say your dress is indeed 1940s, as you guessed. In the photos, the fabric looks a lot like rayon crepe, which was very popular for dresses back then. As the loops declare, there was a matching belt, probably self fabric covered.

    It is really nice!
