    Hello,

My mother found this dress for me today and I was wondering about its date. I thought about the 1940s, maybe not the early 40s but rather the mid or more late 40s although I am really not sure, it could be earlier.

I didn't photograph the seams because there are no serged seams and the dress as an object seems old so I don't think it could be a reproduction (although if you need I could make other photographs). It may be homemade. The zip is on the front, it is metal. I don't know if that could help you but we bought it in France. The dress is made of two bands of fabrics and if I untie them you can see my chest, the zip doesn't go up to my neck.

    Thank you very much.

Interesting construction with the zipper in the front and center. I see 40s, but I'm not totally sure. I might just be to distracted by all the gorgeous Danish Modern in the background!

It looks 40s to me as well. Love the sleeve and the crossing at the bustline.

Thank you! Do you have an idea if it is more early, mid or late 40s? I thought the sleeves might not be puffed enough for early 40s.

What do think the fabric is? That could help with dating.

I really like that dress. It seems rather unusual to have that chunky zipper in front on the skirt, with a wrap bodice. This makes me wonder if this was a "make do and mend" dress from war time 1940s. Possibly altered from another garment such as a long house dress. The fabric print is charming and reminds me of 30s cotton and rayon prints.

I am unable to name it but it is a kind of thin and light cotton.

The length and the exposed zipper could be late 30's, but overall the dress seems to be early 1940's to me.
