I picked up this beautiful cupcake of a dress and I'm curious what era it might be from. It has a rear metal Talon zipper and looks like it's made from synthetic organza fabric with machine-embroidered flowers. The underlayer feels almost like a cotton or cotton blend.I picked up this beautiful cupcake of a dress and I'm curious what era it might be from. There are no tags, but it looks skillfully constructed so perhaps made by a professional seamstress. My first thought was 50s, maybe 60s, but I'm just not sure!

I'm also curious whether this was a wedding dress, or of there were other occasions that this might have been worn for.

I think you are correct dating it late '50s, early '60s. I see it more as a garden party, maybe debutante/prom dress rather than a wedding gown but of course now it would make a lovely wedding gown.
