gantner wikies swim shorts

    any help dating this piece would be appreciated. also, would any happen to know what material this is? it feels like plastic, but it appears to have a knit? thank you!

    Your swim trunks seem to be the same as the ones on the right, in the bottom row of this 1964 ad for Gantner Wikies, and which are labeled "Boys' Styles." Similar features are the half-belt, the stripe on the right, the small patch at the bottom of the stripe, and the logo/label in the circle on the top left of the ad. Note that the text above the trunks references Lastex fabric, which was thin strands of rubber wrapped with threads of cotton, rayon, silk, or nylon. That may be what your trunks are made of.
