    Hi!

I had mentioned before that I've been in contact with Susan Goldworm, of the Goldworm Knitwear Company. She has purchased a bunch of items off my website, and we've kept a friendly email chat going. She passed along some of the history of the company, and I thought it was interesting enough to share, and perhaps add to the label resource file.

GOLDWORM- In 1928, the Goldworm Knitwear Company was founded in New York by Mrs. Gertrude Goldworm. This family run business influenced the entire knitwear industry. Her son, Robert, having graduated from New York University in 1947, joined the company and was soon recognized as a talented knitwear designer himself.

Shortly after, Robert traveled to Italy in search of quality hand finishing - buttonholes hand done, seams looped. It is there where he joined forces with a small knitwear business owned and operated by the Dragone family. This merger allowed Goldworm to translate American fashions but with traditional Italian craftsmanship.

Soon, Robert’s sister, Beverly Tuttman, joined the company as head designer and helped turn classic knitwear into high fashion. The Goldworm knit company has received many honors, including the Coty Award and the Editorial Fashion Award by Glamour Magazine. In 1968, Goldworm became the first American to receive the Premio Mercurio D’oro, Italy’s highest award for commercial and economic achievement.

I do need to ask her which label is older, and which decade each is from. I will have to get back to you on that.

I do have to add both these dresses are extremely flattering on the body!!

    Yes!

I'm going to cut and paste this info onto the label board so I won't lose it!

Diana, did you write the above history, or did Susan? And do know when the company closed?

    Wonderful information!!

Diana....great info! I have always liked the Goldworm label stuff, think it is one of those labels that still has to 'be
discovered'. I always figured the "goldworm" referred to some very 'elite' batch of silk worms :D

    Hi!

I just emailed Susan regarding the labels and company closing. I'll post the info when I get it. The above info was paraphrased from what I believe was a 1968 press release. It's on PDF format, I will email it to you Lizzie, if you like.

    Sue,

I thought the same thing re: silk worms. I was pretty nervous asking if she was related, as she had purchased a bunch of stuff, and hadn't mentioned it. I always assumed it refered to "High End Silk Spinning" but, it is actually a Surname.

    Diana,

I'd love to have the PDF document. Thanks!

And I can't wait to hear the information on the label ages, and the rest of the story.
