Has anyone heard of a brand called Smug?

    I purchased an orange coat with a label that reads “SMUG.” Does anyone know anything about this brand, and from when my coat may date?

    It looks like one of those late 60s/early 70s junior lines that was made by an established company that was trying to muscle in on the boutique movement look. That bloated font looks like those on the early 70s 'Keep on Truckin' or 'Flaunt it if you Got it' T-shirts...

    It looks like there were two iterations of the Smug trademark...

    And it looks like SMUG is exactly as I suspected - The Cable Raincoat Company had been in business since at least the 1920s and had a large government contract during the war to supply raincoats and leather jackets for uniforms. SMUG was them trying to break into the hip market.
