Recently purchased this hat and love it but hat's really aren't my specialty. It looks older to me due to the style of a top hat, but the woman I bought it from told me it was 40s. If it is 40s, what did women wear this with? It's in great shape.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you!

fyi, that band goes around the back of the head not under the chin.

I think it's 40s or definitely a 40s style tilt hat. Hard to see the interior though and how that band is attached so I wouldn't say 100% the date.

40s tilt hats were very popular with suits.

The elastic goes around the back of the head, so the hat would be anchored as it was tilted, sometimes at a ridiculous angle over one eyebrow. I have heard these called suit hats, as Cin says. I can see the black wool gabardine suit this would have complemented.

Thanks everyone! I figured the band went around the back but I couldn't get it to stay on my slippery alien head hehe :)
