Okay, so they aren't that old, in fact I don't think they were terribly expensive when new either, but I thought they were just a hoot! I think they are about 1979-81. Essentially they are wedige heeled thongs with a wired gold faux snakeskin ankle strap that winds up the leg. THey are by Paolo Coretti, who I have never heard of...

Also, did a bit of drive by garage sale shopping on Saturday and found this hilarious "fashion plate" designer kit from 1978. There are plastic plates with raised line images of various skirts, tops and hats/hairstyles, and you can mix and match them into something like 120 designs by doing a rubbing of the plates. Clever idea, and certainly a great document of 1978 fashions! I want to keep it, but will probably not.

Those shoes are a hoot! And that fashion plates thing I bought at a
garage sale for Nicole in the 80s....she loved it! I remember doing some with her and they were a lot of fun.

  3. Those shoes are like ultra 70s decedence, i.e. studio 54. They are a trip. Can't you just see Margot Hemmingway wearing them with a white chiffon toga!

I bought my neice one of those fashion thingies!! I forgot all about it until I saw yours.

Thanks for the memories!! ~ Maureen

Can I guess what you have been doing in all your spare time with pencil crayons in tow???? ;)

Those shoes are fantabulous. Very Greek Goddess Goes Disco. I would be tempted to list them in Sept for a sexy Halloween costume.

I had that exact fashion plate set. Let me know when you list it. Cheyenna needs one too. ;)

I HAD those fashion plates when I was a kid! I used to spend hours playing with them....as I recall, there was a bottom panel wearing roller skates as well as what is shown there..... They came out with a boy's version, too - "Mighty Men and Monster Makers" - those had interchangeable heads, torsos with octupus arms, ripped out of his mind guy arms, etc...you get the idea....and of course my brother and I tried to mix the sets to create very interesting fashions after I was done using them in the normal way : ) Side show freak fashion plates : ) Wonder if my parents still have them - probably not.

and now I can't get the stupid commercial out of my head : )

Hmm...if only some role model would have come along and intervened and nurtured our strange proclivities...who knows how we would have ended up instead : )

My brother although very good at what he does, would not have been a cook today. Instead of the show "Monster Garage" we would have co-hosted "Monster Makeover" together.

sounds like he is....although maybe in his mind - since he doesn't know what they will bring...is thinking about donating them to one of us LOL.

For the moment I will be keeping them. I don't have anything similar in my collection and although they aren't exactly couture quality, the idea behind them intrigues me, and they are photogenic (although the quickie photo I took of them doesn't support that theory...)

Wow, those shoes rock! Very Roberto Cavalli! They would fly off the shelf this summer! And in perfect condition. Nice score. I must admit I'm jealous!

Kevin...Bingo on the Roberto Cavelli! Trying to think of the designer's clothes these reminded me of - thank you (so stressful when you are
trying to grasp a name and it just won't come! :) )
