Can anyone tell me when this dress and hat date to ? My grandmother was born in 1901. I would also like to know if someone could tell me what sort of garment she would have worn under the dress, as it is completely see through. Thank you !

The dress looks to be mid to late 1920s, maybe 1926-1927 ish. Has the hem been taken up at all? The hat is later, 1940s.

Tthe dress looks like silk organza, or cotton organdy. There would have been a matching under dress or slip in the same color.

How wonderful that you have them.

Thank you for that info ! I'm not sure about the hem. Do you know if this would have been a dress worn for everyday or a special occasion ?

I agree with Barbara that the hat is 40s and the dress earlier, but I am thinking the dress is more like c. 1922ish and I am not sure the hem has been turned up - they often used very deep hems in the early 1920s on organdy dresses.
