Hi everyone! I found this dress in a thrift store nearby, and couldn't resist. But I have been collecting 50s Hawaiian dresses so far, so I'm not very good at dating and identifying other clothes. Can you help me with this one? I think it is probably 60s or 70s, but really not sure. The orange fabric is like velvet, the golden parts are lurex. It is not lined. All help is appreciated! Vic
No, its ethnographic, but that doesn't mean someone didn't wear it in the 70s as a fashion item - that happened all the time.
Hi Jonathan, I am wondering why you think or leads you to feel Vicky's costume is ethnographic in nature?
Yes but why ethnographic? I think you are correct, it could well have been worn in the 70s, imo the costume comes across as shelf stock but that doesn't distract from its vintage, it comes across--well as a costume of its time, nothing special, no disrespect intended to Vicky.
I am not sure what you are asking - its ethnographic because it was created using traditional styling and materials and was intended for the domestic market, it was not created with the intent of tapping trending fashion for the international market.
