I don't know if these could be young girls dresses. They aren't homade as one has the remanants of a label and the stitching is the same on both. So they don't fit my manni. Way to short waisted and length is too short. Measuring they have 19 across the underarms and 30 inch waists I looked at the teen dresses in my 54 catolog and the highest waist I can find is for a young girls size 16 with a 27 1/2 waist. So are they just for short gals with normal waists???

what is the shoulder to waist measurement? and then the skirt measure - and do you think the skirts have been shortened.? It is possibly for a petite size rather than a girl. If it is only 8" lets say from shoulder to waist maybe it is just for one of those 3/4 of lifesize dolls or manniquins.
Shoulder to waist 15 Length from shoulder down to bottom 36. Never been hemmed up. But there is a nice amount of hem
Pauline, that's a petite then. Almost all of my vintage dresses have a shoulder to waist measurement of 15" some just slightly smaller. ANd that's a 16" skirt then. so just a tiny bit longer than a miniskirt. might skim the knee or be jsut above
on the photo of the second dress, i swear i can see a seam allowance at the hemline. the first dress looks shorter to me because of the horizontal lines i suppose.
the only thing that puzzles is usually petites are half size in the bust, but darting of course would leave a margin of error. they usually would be a 37 or 39 bust, etc. (so might still be with the darting) the waist still throws me off, as it would be around 26 and 28 for those two bust sizes, but maybe I am used to full skirted dresses where the waist would be belted tight. I know...are you sure they are supposed to be worn with a crinoline? (they looked like you might have one under there) maybe they are not to be worn poufed out but more shirt waist dress style. if that was the case, then the waist might be bigger for more allowance than i am used to thinking about.
Okay I have been going blind looking at these hems. I do believe now they were taken up. So that settles the problem of them being short in length. Guess I am just one who hasn't bought too many short waisted dresses. ( and yes I will be adding those measurements) Steph good eye!! yes that is darted But not the second one. ( never thought about the darts.) Okay so foolish post! I am going to put them in the mall hopefully by this weekend!
well then that makes sense. they could have also been turned up later when the fashions changed and the hemlines hiked up
