I posted this quite a while back on the VCA for input, ideas, etc . . but it was so long ago, I forget what people said - except that they thought it was 30's.

I wasn't sure if it was a gown or dress (requiring a liner) when I found it. The concensus seemed to be that it was a gown.

Could use whatever input any/all of you can provide.
I don't often ask for help, but I'm out of my depth on this particular one.

    <img src="http://members.aol.com/crew112/images/blksmock-frfl.jpg"><BR><img src="http://members.aol.com/crew112/images/blksmock-det.jpg"><BR><img src="http://members.aol.com/crew112/images/blksmock-fab.jpg"><BR><img src="http://members.aol.com/crew112/images/blksmock-flaw2.jpg"><BR>

No elastic - the smocking acts as "an elasticized" area.
The edge stitching has pulled away from the fabric, here and there.
The are a couple of small holes, here & there, in the fabric (that do not seem to be growing).
Probably the most notable prob is that the tops of the straps were shortened (thankfully, not by cutting; they were folded over and hand-stitched across the straps). It is noticeable where the hand-stitching was taken out, up there. Not horrid, but noticeable.

Also - what would you call this fabric?

Any/all input gratefully received - and thank you, in advance.

Looks like a crepe chiffon to me. If it were mine I would add the word dress in the title like ex.Black nightie or dress. Looks good enough to wear out. ( that is if its not real noticable that one wouldn't mind the small flaws. )

    It is gorgeous. Bust enhancing!

    Hi Pauline -

Oh, fer shure, wearable as a dress, now. . . .
But it's a great garment . . and if someone wants it (a collector?) as a vintage gown, I'd really like to have the facts straight.

Crepe chiffon sounds right. It has the fine pebbly crepe texture & drape, yet is airy light.
    Thanks, sweetie. :)

Maybe just note in your description that it'd be a fabulously sexy dress?

It's very very pretty & I agree that it's crepe chiffon.

    Good score!

    Thanks, Leisa -

I was hoping that I could find out more about it's former life - closer to an actual date or something . . .

But "fabulously sexy dress" is good, too. :)
