I'm new here and is this an authentic Gilbert Adrian jacket?

IMG_0391_1.jpg IMG_0393_2.jpg IMG_0399_2.jpg IMG_0386_2.jpg IMG_0382_1_1.jpg I found this jacket several years ago and I never knew where to go to find out if it is authentic (until I stumbled across this fantastic website). It seems to have many of the characteristics but the label has been re-sewn and it is not centered. Can anyone give me any tips on whether or not it is authentic? Sorry my photos are not very good!

You will need to re-size your photo or try attaching as a thumbnail

photos sized at about 500 pixels across work best here.

by the way, we won't be able to authenticate your garment for you, but as you say, we can try to help guide you in what to recognize, or not, as helpful.

I can see the photos but I can't tell about the design. Please put the jacket on a hanger and hang with a plain background. Then take a photo of the front and back.
My first impression is that an Adrian label has been sewn into another jacket.

I agree with Claire, it looks very much to me as though the label has been sewn into another jacket. Even if somebody was re-attaching the original, this label looks rather too worn/used compared to the jacket. (pulled thread at the bottom, colour variation etc.)
It looks like a nice shape jacket, which I think has unfortunately been ironed - see the shiny patches where the material has two or more layers?

The label also appears off centre to the hanging loop and the fabric looks to be a lower quality than an Adrian.

Well, I tried to get better photos, but I'm not used to the camera software yet. Yes, I noticed that the label seemed more worn than the jacket and also the infamous unfortunate iron sheen. The quality of the fabric is actually much nicer than it appears in the photos. The label was half falling off (was not well sewn on to begin with) when I found it so I resewed one side (not very well), but before I did, I noticed that there was no evidence of any other label ever being on the jacket. But this might be the definitive sign.... the lining is not attached inside at the bottom. If you peak underneath it, the seam allowances are not finished and they are starting to fray. An Adrian would not be constructed so carelessly, would it?

It doesn't look like any Adrian I have ever seen in person - it also looks to be made of a rayon bengaline, which seems very 'ready-to-wear' to me - not the quality of textile he would use.

This is one of my Adrians. It's verbal hy was that it belonged to Janet Gaynor.
I don't think this is a typical Adrian but it does have some inset seams and a label like yours.

Thanks everyone for trying to help. So, it's possible it could be an Adrian? I appreciate the information about the fabric quality which leads to me believe it is not, but I think I'll try to get some better photos and will take photos of the seams as well. Once again, I really apprecaite your help. It fits me perfectly but I don't want to wear it if it's an Adrian. I would wear it despite the fabric shine, but IF it's an Adrian does the shine make it worthless?

Send more photos, but I think you have an Adrian label on someone else's jacket.

OK, Claire. I'll give the camera more practice tomorrow!

  15. I agree - we need good and clear photos. It's a lovely jacket and I find that although iron sheen reduces the value, it doesn't make it "worthless", as not everyone minds as much - especially if it is an Adrian. I, for one, would not turn my nose up at it!

Holly, do you have a cell phone. If so, they take surprisingly good photos.

I hope the photos I just added will help! I thought the seams looked too unfinished to be couture?

Hi Claire. I added these photos yesterday. I REALLY hope you can see them! I took a picture of the seams under the lining. The edges are not finished.
