I am always so deeply touched by stories of the horrific cruelties endured by slaves in this country. A few years ago I was listening to the audiobook Twelve Years a Slave, as I did my daily walk through town, and tears were streaming down my face while I was quietly sobbing in response to what I was hearing. While it was tragic to hear of the cruelties this intelligent, strong, and determined woman had to endure, I am so comforted by her having achieved the life she was reaching for, in spite of the slavery into which she was born. Thank you for posting that cathartic and inspirational story.
