Is This Purple Coat 80s Doing 40s..40s Doing 80s???

  1. I think it is 80s because of the wool content label, but the construction of the inside shoulder looks older!!<br>

The pad is cloth. Also the burgundy lining is lined with white cloth!

Prefixing this with a caveat of 'I know nuffink about coats', I think possibly earlier, but I don't know by how much.
But I've got what I think is a fairly early 50s British dress which has a 'All Wool' label in it, but not that logo. When did the wool logo come in? 60s? 70s?

Sorry, no help! *Love* it though.

  3. You know I did know that but I have forgotten. Hoped someone would refresh my memory. I think sometime in the early 60s.

Found a coat on style.com fall fashions that reminds me of it.

I don't know why. The fit of the bodice or the color..

Maybe it *is* 60s - with those curved panels either side of the bust...

(no smarter than I was half an hour ago, possibly less..)

That muslin interlining is still used today on some coats. I'm thinking late
    60s on this. I don't think it is 80s, but I'm pretty sure it isn't 40s.

Very cute and love that colour!

That sleeve puff is what they were doing just at the very end of the 70s, leading into the wide shoulder line of post 1981. I think its winter 1979 - winter 1981, somewhere in there.

Linda - that velvet collar also gives this coat an equestrian feeling - another trend for this fall...
