It\'s Sweater Time...What do I do with this one?

This is a nice men's 60s sweater....but what do I do with it?

It DID sell...to a non-paying bidder. (with no underbidder to offer it too)

I talked about the caliber of the shop it came from, talked about it being fully fashioned, and talked about how it would go so well with the fall earthtones and even showed it with a layered wearing suggestion.

I framed it as a preppy layered look or Mod guys could wear it.

Its only a 40 - but i know there are guys that size! Should i market it as unisex. Or maybe it was just bad luck

I'm having poor luck with men's cashmere sweaters of the same style. There are very few looks, never mind watchers or bids. Maybe men need to actually experience the cold weather before they think ahead to the fact that they will need a sweater soon.

  3. Chris, I think women who like a man's style sweater would probably search in the men's category anyway. I think relist. Sales are better now and here in Illinois, it is getting chilly at night.:)

I may just try it again. List it the same as is. I listed at $18.99 last time. I might keep it there with a BIN added.... or maybe a little less.

    Gotta keep on keepin on.

Ooh, I love that sweater. I wish it would fit my husband!

The weather just turned cold (50s) here this week...You may do better with it now.

Good question. Its sort of a combination of a lot of factors and not one specific one.

The label is the biggest indicator. I knew when Hickey's was in business and about the time they closed. (i am too young to remember it, but my dad does). There won't be much of anything after the 1960s with the label because of it. Also, if I didn't know that, I would guess by the font/overall look of the label and that would narrow it in if not pinpoint it.

Also its a really slim cut, where men's sweaters like this nowadays are a bit more generous, and there have always been v-neck sweaters but the size of the v always changes a little bit. But then again, its not that alone.

The sleeves are also fully fashioned which was much more common than as opposed to now. You may see high end sweaters these days (not high end because its a trendy name but a really really excellent sweater maker) that are fully fashioned, but even the more popular big names don't do it any more either because they are just less labor intensive to make without it. So, fully fashioned wouldn't mean it would have to be older, but it makes it less likely to be newer considering what the average medium to hihg priced sweater is constructed like today.

Lizzie is really the sweater person, I just pick up what i can.

    I agree with ellenm.

Men have to feel the cold winter before they think about buying winter items. My husband says that if it's in the 60's, it feels great outside. He starts to complaining in about the low 30's about needing long sleeve items.......:hysterical:

You could be right...but i was thinking about unisex appeal too.

You would be surprised though...some of my more trendy/metrosexual (if that is still a trendy thing) guy customers bought out my cashmere in august. I have nothing left.
