I barely left the booth! I think we were busy!

My friend came up from Monterey, California. He does a lot of shows in California. And a couple other states.

He sold a really beautiful Bakelite jewelry box that once belonged to Mrs. Gump. I forgot to take a picture of it :( Now it's gone!

When I first saw you adorable cicada pin I was assuming that what I heard years ago -- that the cicada was a symbol of good luck -- was true. But just now I couldn't find any backup for that. But I did find this:

A summer insect (at least in temperate countries), the cicada has represented insouciance (i.e. nonchalance or indifference) since classical antiquity. Jean de La Fontaine began his collection of fables Les fables de La Fontaine with the story La Cigale et la Fourmi (The Cicada and the Ant) based on one of Aesop's fables: in it the cicada spends the summer singing while the ant stores away food, and finds herself without food when the weather turns bitter.

    And this:

Also: The cicada is an ancient polyvalent symbol: resounding themes are resurrection, immortality, spiritual realization and spiritual ecstasy.

    O My gosh!

Mary Catherine: Thank you for that information! Plus, I hadn't gotten around to figuring out WHAT kind of bug it is!!

Hollis: What a coincidence!! I wish I had the hair for mine! I have thin, fine hair.

Marty: I'm thinking of putting them in cupcakes!

How FAB! What is that Slipperette piece?

It's a box for slippers, for men!

(My friend knows I LOVE anything vintage.)

I think they were stretchy travel slippers, according to the cover.

Whatever was in there was "friar brown/shore beige"!!

I keep coming back to look at that cute bug-eyed cicada. I can't believe a bug was the symbol of "insouciance." Knowing that make me determined to buy the very next cicada pin I see.

I love it, too. I would buy it in a heartbeat - if I saw it. Here are my two favorite "bugs" but not nearly as fab as that one!
