I am in the process of listing three small lots of 1970s patterns.

The first is ladies 42-52 bust - lot of 4 from the early 70s 1970-73

It's funny that they show it in the picture with very conservative tights, but in the actual pattern with hot pants. Maybe they thought that was too racy for 1971 and they were afraid that young boys would be buying simplicity patterns because they were too young to buy the girlie magazines LOL.

I loved the minidresses of the 60s and 70s though....unlike today, they were pretty conservative on top and so you could get away with showing your legs as much as you wanted and sure maybe people would look, but you still looked classier. (i love miniskirts as I am so short - they make me look normal sized if not tall). More recently with minidresses being both real short on the bottom and low cut at the same time, its harder to carry off a classy look. As is said, low cut or high cut - pick one and go for it and you can be very elegant, but its really hard to carry both off at the same time for everyday wear at least. It usually involves piecing together several different silhouettes and the overall thing doesn't always work. some dresses just look "chopped" at the bottom, like the sihouette was supposed to continue but for the sake of wanting to do both, the proportions just don't work. (and not everyone's figure types is flattered by EVERY feature being accentuated). But then of course, some cuts show one part of the body, but it actually visually draws the focus to a different part. Like, with the dark tights, the legs are in the background, and outfit draws attention to the girl's face. If it was a long skirt, you might notice her height/or lack of first - or if her hips were out of proportion, etc.

I wore so much of this during the 60s and 70s! short minis, but agree Chris with the silhouette compared with today's shorty dresses. 60s 70s slanted more towards 'cute', whereas today's, some seem borderline trashy.
