    Men\'s Guayabera? Cabana? Cigar? Shirt

Is there a name for this shirt? I believe it to be 70s. The label reads Double Red Horse - made in China. It has 2 bottom pockets but no upper pockets. Do Guayaberas always have 4 pockets?

    Thanks bunches

  4. Yes, it's a guayabera shirt.

When they first started making them in Cuba they always had 4 pockets but over the years that has changed. Sometimes they just have 2 upper pockets and sometimes just 2 lower! Most of the time they will have 4 though.

They do now come from all over the world - especially hot tropical climates!!

They are popular shirts for clubbing these days because they are so lightweight and comfortable.

OMG! I actually retained something from my RAB workshop research!! Wow, I didn't know I knew so much a guayaberas.

Here are some more useless facts I picked up:

Miami is the number one maker and retailer of them in the United States.

The most popular story of their origins is that a wealthy land owner in Cuba asked his wife to make him a shirt with lots of pockets so that he could carry all his goodies with him when he was out surveying his land on his horse. His workers liked them so much that they had their women make them some too. Pretty soon they were given the name guayabera (meaning guava tree) because all the workers would sit under they guava trees for shade from the hot sun.

In Mexico they are known as Mexican Wedding Shirts.

And finally, here's a useless fact I'll bet none of you know: My father use to wear them all the time!

The smiley will always appear at the bottom when you click. If you want to go re-insert them in to something you already typed previous up there, press on the smiley and then copy and paste him or her to where you want them.
