I THINK this is authentic, but could definitely use some confirmation before I list it - and any other info would be most appreciated, as I know very little about Gucci. <img src="http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/bartondoll/Dcp_0885.jpg"> Small clear 1/2 disc on front with intertwining G's: <img src="http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/bartondoll/DCP_0886.JPG"> Interior is leather (calfskin? pigskin?) with three sections. Tab over zip pocket is the following: (is that "Anniversary" Collection? or "Accessory" Collection?) <img src="http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/bartondoll/DCP_0893.JPG"> There is a serial number under the tab, however I'm not sure if it is 4L04.4465 or not, have to see if I can get proper pics and a magnifying glass. The lining in mine is good, the only problem is the four bottom corners are worn: <img src="http://image.inkfrog.com/pix/bartondoll/Dcp_0894.jpg"> Also, if I'm looking at the inside leather tag that has the Gucci name, etc., on it - if I lift that tab the serial number, which is in gold, is upside down? (just mowed the lawn and haven't had a chance to take any more pics) sue
Bet my bottom dollar that is an authentic Gucci. The wear at the corners is going to hurt you but it is a logo, vintage and has the signature blue and red ribbon, those things are going to help sell it. I am not an expert at what a "collector" is looking for right now but my guess is you will sell this to a label concious "Carrie" kind of girl that will pair it with fun and funky stuff Good luck! If there is one up now, and if that is the reason you are not listing it....I would start it just before the other auction ends (like the day it ends). therefore when people get there "unforunately you didn't win, here are other similar items" email, you show up there and get some extra traffic while the losing bidders are on "the rebound" so to speak. I think that is what has helped on my BSA bugle that I have up. If there are other reasons for not listing right now, then go with your gut and wait. chris
Good strategy Chris! I guess, I just want to make sure that it is authentic and want to see about researching abit more. I had a Chanel bag that Julie (designergal) said was one of the best fakes she had seen (I was sure it was authentic), so I am a bit gun-shy, even with Michelle's and Leigh's comments. Sue
Ok, well in that case, hold onto it then. This brings up a question. How far does one go to insure authenticity. Obviously there are some fakes that are easy to spot, and some fakes that people who are fairly knowledgeable can detect as well. if all indicators point that something is authentic, or we are pretty sure....how much farther should we go, and how long should we hold onto something or second guess ourselves. If I am not sure of something these are the steps i have followed in the past 1) gut - if a corner is obviously short cuts in making the piece, if there are misspellings in the tag, etc... 2) looking for "what to look for" serial numbers, placement, tags, hallmarks, trademarks and checking the information against trusted references (books, authentic examples on the internet, private collections, people's whose knowledge we trust. 3) If able, asking the company directly, or if it is a company that no longet exists, a company historian, a curator, an archivist, etc. finding out what changes in design/font in label, process happened when. But beyond that, and if we have taken all those steps, do we just hold onto designer items as nonsaleable, or go ahead and sell them. and if there should be a question, have the company, curtors, etc, letter to back it up, or the strong conscensus for experts on the subject.... do we stay away from picking up designer items (vintage items from designers that are still in vogue) altogether or do they pile up around the house until the day should come Mr. Prada or Mr. Gucci or the heir of Coco Chanel happens to be in our neighborhood and tells us the definitive truth. chris
