Hi everyone! I am new to the board and very excited to be venturing into vintage clothing (my specialty is vintage jewelry).

I have a beaded Lawrence Kazar evening gown that I would like some help with dating. I see that Kazar is listed under both vintage & contemporary on eBay, and I'm not finding much in the way of history on the 'net. I'd be happy to supply an image of the label if you would like it for your resources.

Also, would you agree that the color is Goldenrod? That is the closest color in my crayon box, but if there is a better title I'm all ears. Many thanks!

    That's a knockout!

sometimes a label does help people more specifically date a piece by the looks of it, or if they are very familiar with the manufacturer.

I would put goldenrod but then i would also put plain "gold" somewhere in there too. I find that sometimes when i have a very specific shade like "chartreuse", etc, i make sure and also put "green" because some folks may not be thinking that specifically about color. make sure to mention the sequins as well.

I can't tell if the dress is slightly big for your manni or the shoulder pads are a bit large...i automatically think of the 80s when i see shoulder pads like that, but someone may be able to come along and elaborate on this. There may have been another time that i am forgetting about.

Sometimes clothing from the same designer is listed in both vintage and contemporary cats. because the designer has indeed made clothing currently or in vintage eras. However, sometimes a vintage designer is or is also listed in contemporary depending on where it sells better, even if it is 80s or late 70s, etc..

For example, Coach purses from the 80s sometimes do better in the regular handbag category, as that is where coach devotees are looking.
Carole Little, Pendleton to SOME extent, Lilly Pulitzer of the 80s and 70s(sometimes) etc etc. also designs that are kind of timeless and the look hasn't changed an iota.

anyways, good luck and i am sure someone else will have some input!

  3. That is just beautiful. Yes, I think it is 80s, too. Be sure to put Gold in the title and sparkling if you have room.

A picture of the label would be helpful.

I tend to think of goldenrod as more of a bright yellow (like forsythia) - but there you go :) ~ you can't go wrong with good old Gold in the title.

I like the burnished quality of the color, if such thing is possible. Being a jewelry person, you'd know better than I, but I think the color is similar to high-carat gold that's not highly polished. Am I crazy (or just plain wrong)?

Good luck with the gown - gold is getting hot again!

    :)

It looks 80s with the shoulderpads. I LOVE beaded stuff! That is very nice.

Thank you all so very much for your replies! That is sooo helpful. Here is an image of the tag (and feel free to use it for your catalog if you like).

We have a label images thread that I just bumped up to today's posts where we park them all so Lizzie can see them and grab them.

Hopefully, she'll be cruising by and see this one too : )
