Many of you may know that I have a thing for Vintage Mexican...Icluding Pottery, Textiles and the wonderful old Silver.

I "check in" from time to time to see whats up and I saw this Amazing Vintage Silver & Amethyst Bracelet

It is signed simply "Silver Mexico" which is the pre-eagle mark, dating it some time prior to 1948. As the seller notes, sometimes the older pieces can have a higher than sterling silver content. Some as high as 980. I bet this goes through the roof! Sigh...

l know the silver mark was still uised in Taxco, mexico's main silver mineing community, up to late 70's when l lived there....and no sign of the eagle on my silver wares...so that is puzzling!!

That is really gorgeous, thank you for showing us Brenda! Lucky magazine had a little feature this month showing jewelry incorporating hands, predicting it is having "a moment." Hands always bring meaning to a piece, but I can't guess what in this case.

That is true Sara. They stopped using the eagle mark in the late sixtys or early 70s, cant remember just now, maybe about 1972.

I am sure you are right Maggie, the hands would be symbolic, but I am not sure of just what. I have not read my Lucky magazine yet, will have to check that out.

Wow, that is one phenomenal bracelet--the kind truly deserving of that often misapplied expression, "museum quality"... Thanks for pointing it out, Brenda!

Sara--according to Bille Hougart, not all mexican silver marked just "silver mexico" (ie without the eagle) is pre-eagle. Sometimes, because the design of a piece made it difficult to stamp, the eagle mark was put on a metal hangtag of sorts which sometimes got removed once the piece left the store.

No question this beauty is older, though!
