I picked this up at a garage sale this weekend, I spotted it and dashed over! I took a gander on eBay and teak trays from Dansk are doing pretty good... I've seen the same one I have go for $36.00 and it didn't even have the glass bowls. My question is what was this for? Date? Designer? The auction above states it's Jens Quistgaard - is that right? Maybe the glass bowls were used for condiments? I think this would be great for the ginger sauce and wasabi (and is there another one?) that is served with sushi, given the popularity of it (yuck!). The lattice wood tray (very, very nice btw) definitely could tie in with the japanese theme. Sue
This place can sometimes be quite helpful with modern european furniture and accessories (especially if you try asking in the communities section.. or there are various search functions on the site): http://www.gomod.com/ All I know about Jens Quistgaard is that the designer was something to do with Dansk Designs in the 1950s and designed a lot of tableware (cutlery, coffee pots, etc) and I've seen occasional bits of furniture. Unfortunately I'm a midwinter girl when it comes to tableware, and my furniture is strictly plastic-fantastic in bright colours so I never paid any attention to all of the wooden things by Dansk Designs. I have to admit I'm a big fan of Dansk stuff, but usually it's out of my price range. I would keep this, but it's one of those great things that I know I'll probably NEVER use. I've listed it tonight because I could use a little extra coin this week - my girlfriend's engagement party is next Sunday and I'd like to give her a gift! LoL!! Hey if it doesn't sell, maybe I'll give it as her gift...
Very nice set! I think there may have been 6 dishes originally but to have any of them is good! I have had a ton of danish trays with metal but have never seen this one with glass. It's great...
