Our ice storm...

What a wacky winter!
First we get a freak snowstorm in the middle of October -- the earliest ever recorded... then we get an unbelievably mild fall and winter and now we get an ice storm! Branches have been crashing down onto the street from century old maples along the boulevard and the lights keep flickering but luckily no power outages yet...

Here are some pics from our garden -- a Yucca seed pod and our Privet hedge.

Great pics...very eerie!! Hope your power stays on.

We have been doing okay here in the West. No wind storms or snow. Last week was pretty chilly but that was it...crossing fingers it stays nice.

Oh yikes!
Did you just get that today Jonathan?
That must be what is supposed to hit here.

Hope you power stays on!

That looks exactly like my backyard. I hate ice!
Hope the power stays on for you--and the warmer temps come back.

We just spent a good hour or so outside chipping the 3" layer of ice off of the sidewalk...and we're not done!
We have some similar images to Jonathan's. I was noting my hydrangea flowers were encased in ice, pretty!

We have 3 100+ year old maples in the front yard. One has a snapped branch, one was making a terrible noise when a gust hit it. The Red Maple is holding up much better than the 2 Sugar varieties.

What beautiful pictures, Jonathan, but...your poor yuccas!

I live in a heavily treed neighborhood, which means when we're hit with an ice storm we ooh and ah while it lasts, and then have to clean up the post-apocalyptic landscape afterwards...

We're being spared this time around (temps still unseasonably mild despite 3 days of rain)--my fingers are crossed for those of you who are watching your electricity nervously...

It's amazing how something so beautiful can cause so much damage.

I give Little Miss Sunshine:USETHUMBUP::USETHUMBUP:

Saw it at the theater and then bought it for Xmas

I for one have never seen anything like that! Absolutely beautiful and scary at the same time!

We are battling a cold one here in Southern CO that all of our livestock are not used to. I could not imagine dealing with livestock in that climate! WOW

We lost power for about a half hour last night (right at the end of a program...) so I had a bath and was preparing to go to bed when everything came back on. So we were lucky.

But all I heard yesterday were sirens constantly running back and forth -- I hate to think how many car accidents there were.

hi johnathan..... those pictures look beautifull...would make ideal pictures for a calendar.....

hope everything is ok....and you are managing with the conditions..

well here is south wales..uk . its been really mild for the time of year.... but we are having really bad rain..and very strong wind.. which is causing damage..... they have forcasted servere storms again... for the rest of the week... and then cold weather next week with possible snow....
