I am having difficulty in getting a consensus on this 2 piece , as to whether it is late 60s, early 70s, or a later 1990s homemade 2 piece ? In a Facebook group, one person said she had the same fabric, early 70s, and another said she had handled 70s clothing with the same zipper. Others have indicated it is an early 00s remake. I don't know enough about zippers to be sure. Can anyone help with giving me some pointers on when this might have been made? Many thanks
Hello! How long is the skirt? And is the fabric a knit or woven type? Also, what sort of collar is on the shirt?
Hi Denise ! Thank you for your time Skirt is just under 70cm, waist to hem, fabric is relatively smooth to touch, and has no stretch in it, collar is slightly rounded and goes from front to back ( photos attached ). Has definitely had some replacement done over time, as buttons on cuffs don't match button in skirt, back skirt vent is not open, it is a pleated back vent. Hope this helps Thanks again
That is tricky. The length of the skirt strikes me as 70s, as does the fabric type, which appears synthetic.
The fabric is definitely a synthetic, but quite smooth to touch. I've been told by one person, the zipper is similar to other 70s pieces she has handled, another person said the zipper is more 90s. The zipper, to me, looks in line with other 70s pieces I have seen. The buttons don't look too contemporary either ?
If the snaps I see on the collar make the back of the collar roll up when fastened, I'd lean toward early 70s. That wasn't a style feature of the 90s. OR are those for the bow? And zippers on home sewn garments can be any age as people hold on to them for years! That said, I think invisible zippers were available on the market in the early 1970s. Not sure, but they have been around quite a while. It would help a lot to see this on a person for the silhouette.....
